Mila Wins the Race to the Race

Mila Performance was in a race to get to the race when completing the new Racer Engineering Trick Truck for Milk-N-It Motorsports’ Todd Tuls. It was a huge accomplishment just to get to the Best In The Desert series’ season opening Parker 425 race in Parker, Arizona. Mila Performance owner Keith Mila De La Roca loaded his tools, hung out a “back later” sign on the shop door, and traveled to Racer Engineering where he put in some crazy hours to transform a rolling chassis into a completed race truck in only 45 days.

Parker is one of the toughest races of the season and Milk-N-It Motorsports only had time for a few miles of testing on their drive to the race. The team missed qualifying on Thursday, so they had to start dead last. They were the 80th unlimited race vehicle off the line. The truck basically rolled off the trailer and onto the starting grid.

It was a frantic pace leading up to the race, but truck owner Todd Tuls had an ear to ear smile after crossing the finish line. Todd was running as high as 7th place at one point during the race. The only trouble was a serpentine belt that came off causing them to stop and change it. The down time dropped them from 7th to 14th in class and 21st overall, but Todd overtook nearly 60 other vehicles in just three laps. Needless to say, the truck is a rocket ship.

“Now we have some time to go over the truck and really perfect it,” said Keith Mila De La Roca, “We were focused on just getting it to function, now we can clean everything up, make some more permanent mounts for a few components and put a final polish on the whole truck. We have high standards at Mila Performance, the truck performed flawlessly, but we like to go the extra mile so it looks just as well as it functions.”
