Seeds and Bell Slide Inside Top Five at Muddy Primm Big 6

RMATV/MC’S Justin Seeds and Robby Bell finished fourth and fifth at a mud-filled fifth round of the BIG 6 GP series

A steady, overnight rainfall, along with off-and-on showers throughout the day, lead to fairly muddy conditions at the fifth round of the BIG 6 grand prix series in Primm, NV. With vision being the main concern a good start would be crucial, but at the end of the first lap both Rocky Mountain ATV/MC, Precision Concepts, Maxxis Race Team riders were at the tail-end of the top ten, with Seeds in seventh and Bell in eighth. Justin was able to settle in to a good pace and work up inside the top five, but his teammate would suffer a minor mechanical as Robby’s bike began to smoke, forcing him into the pits early-on.

After a lengthy pit-stop, the team found the source of the smoke-a slight oil leak-and made the decision that the bike would be able to finish, so Bell rejoined the race around tenth place. As Bell worked his way up through the field, Justin cemented his top-five position, moving into fourth place, where he would finish once the checkered flag came out. Bell’s charge through the field would see him make two late-race passes to move into fifth, behind his teammate, salvaging a solid finish after the early issues.

Justin Seeds gave a quick recap after the race: “I lined up squeezed to the far right [on the start line], where I wanted to be, but it was really slick, I lost a little drive and Del Fante pushed me into the hay bales [on the edge of the course] so I had to check up. I think I was around fifth, but a couple guys wicked it up and passed me. Once [my teammate] got by me I realized I needed to gather myself and I was able to tag along with Robby and then push forward up into fourth. I was maybe a little timid in some spots early-on, but I found a pace I was comfortable with and I’ll take the fourth. It’s not where I want to be, but it’s consistent and I’m going into next weekend healthy. [The muddy conditions] caught me off guard, but I was stoked with the decision on the Maxxis tires that the team made, bringing out the SM front, and I’m excited going into Mesquite [WORCS] next weekend. We haven’t been there in a long time and I’m pumped to get back to a place that has a real moto track.”

Robby Bell had this to say post-race: “Honestly, the start ruined me. I didn’t get a good-enough jump off the line and there was a huge mud-hole on the start straight, so I just got absolutely covered in muck. I was outside the top ten early, but got up into eighth behind my teammate on the first lap. I was able to get by Justin, but I’d blown through all of my tear-offs and soon after I had to toss my goggles off. I came in the following lap for goggles and to have the team check out why [my bike] was smoking, which put me way back again. After getting back out there, I just found a good pace and pushed by as many guys as I could before the checkered flag came out. Fifth place is a bit of a disappointment for me, but considering the set-backs I had in the race it was a good salvage of a bad day. I’ll definitely be looking forward to next weekend and pushing for that top step on the podium.”

Justin and Robby’s next race will be the sixth round of the WORCS series on May 6-8th in Mesquite, NV.
