Alumi Craft Racers Strike Gold At Pahrump Nugget 250

Pahrump, NV

Alumi Craft racers were back in the desert and back in the lead when the Best In The Desert series returned to Pahrump, Nevada after a 9 year hiatus. The Pahrump Nugget 250 would be run on a seasoned course that had been left to the elements for nearly a decade. A 250 mile sprint race, competitors would be running a fast pace despite rocky terrain and plenty of silt. Freezing temperatures overnight and at the start of the race added to the challenge.

craft-2Class 10 is always highly competitive and at the Nugget 250, a pair of Alumi Craft cars battled back and forth for the win. In the end, Chase Warren took the victory over Jared Teague who finished less than a minute behind in second. “We started up front, third off the line,” said Warren, “It was our first time starting up front. By the time we were 10 miles in we were close to the lead on corrected time. We wanted to take the physical lead and then set the pace. It was pretty dusty and rocky. I backed it down a little once we got out front and tried to miss the rocks. Somehow we lost the clutch so I had to shift without it. It was tough whenever we came across something unexpected. There were miles of the course where you couldn’t see anything in the dust. We had a great run and made time on Teague in the rougher sections. The last 30 miles was brutal so we backed it down just a little to save the tires.”craft-3   Second place Jared Teague had a flawless race but could not overtake Warren in the rocks. “We had a good day with no flats and no problems,” says Teague, “Warren was going really fast in the rough stuff. We were within seconds the whole race and everyone else was 20 minutes back. It was a good race between two fast cars. We got held up by slower trucks in the dust; we could see him closing in on us. We went over so much lava flow and piles of rocks but our Alumi Craft was awesome!”craft-4

In the unlimited opened wheel class 1500, Scott Bailey took the win in his MAV TV Alumi Craft car. He started 16th and worked his way up to 10th place overall at the finish. Bailey also won the final race last season when it was held in Henderson, NV. He has never suffered a DNF in his Alumi Craft car, (did not finish) and his consistency has paid off with a second place finish in the points championship this season.

The Pahrump 250 marks the end of the Best In The Desert 2016 season. The 2017 season is only a month or so away starting in Parker, Arizona, February 2-5. Warren and Teague are already planning a re-match and are anxious to get back racing.
